About Rilemo
Rilemo is a MedTech startup building a portable diagnostic imaging device that works wherever the patient is, from ambulances to home care. By combining non-ionising electromagnetic imaging with AI, we want to decentralise diagnostics and bring high-quality medical imaging beyond the hospital walls, so that diagnosis becomes more timely, inclusive and accessible for everyone.
What we are looking for
You are a tech enthusiast with a physics, computer science or similar background, and you ramp into new problem spaces fast. You ship the 80% without gold-plating, set a sensible quality bar on your own, and raise blockers crisply when you hit them. You can take a loosely specified task in the morning, ship it by the end of the day, and make the right calls about scope and quality without waiting for permission.
We run on AI coding agents, so whatever your background, you are comfortable building with them and want to work this way.
Choose your track
There are four tracks: two lean towards software and two towards physics. You choose the ones that fit you when you apply, and you are welcome to pick one even if your background points elsewhere.
Software
Software Operator
Day-to-day software, with the CIO.
You own the day-to-day software that runs Rilemo, working autonomously on engineering tasks you agree on with the CIO and shipping them end to end: evaluation metrics, validation gates, robustness fixes, the things that keep a fast team moving but never quite fit in a day.
Software
Agent Builder
AI automation and internal tooling.
You turn the team's recurring pain points into shipped AI automations and sharper internal tooling. You sharpen our shared Claude Code and Codex toolkit, connect agents to our Notion knowledge base and paper library, and automate the operations nobody wants to do by hand.
Physics
Simulation Engineer
Electromagnetic simulations and device performance.
You help us expand our simulation software stack, integrating existing frameworks into our pipelines, and you run, analyse and optimise the electromagnetic simulations that tell us how our device actually performs. You characterise imaging capability, push simulation speed and fidelity, and turn raw simulation output into insight the team can act on.
Physics
Modeling Scientist
Analytical modeling and scattering theory.
You build analytical models of how signals scatter inside the body, characterising the physics behind our imaging in a way data-driven simulation alone cannot. You validate your models against simulations and, if you want, explore how the physics can inform our deep-learning algorithms.
What you will do
Whatever the track, you work in a young team with strong autonomy and full ownership of your projects, with a light check-in each day. You can also spot a pain point or propose a direction yourself, get a quick go-ahead from the CIO, and build it. The work is set up so you can move without waiting on heavy review. Every few days you demo what you have built, and you document it cleanly so the team can pick it up after you. If a direction turns out to be a poor fit, you flag it, hand it back and move to the next one.
Must-have
A student in Computer Science, Physics or a related field
With strong fundamentals in your area of study.
Autonomy and good judgment
You work with light supervision, set a sensible bar for when something is done, and raise blockers crisply.
AI coding agents as your default
You have enough coding foundation to direct the tools well and ship something that works.
MVP-minded
You ship the 80% fast and don't gold-plate work that doesn't need it.
Fast context-ramping
You get up to speed on a new area quickly and start being useful without a full onboarding.
A genuine tech enthusiast
You keep up with the field on your own initiative.
Fluent English
Written and spoken.
And strength in one or more of the following
- The modern AI-agent stack: Claude Code and Codex, MCP, LLM APIs, prompt engineering, custom skills or hooks
- Scientific computing, numerical methods or electromagnetic simulation
- Deep learning or computer vision, with comfort reading and modifying model code
- Analytical modeling and applied mathematics, especially in wave physics or scattering theory
- The scientific Python stack (NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch)
- Electromagnetic simulation tools such as Sim4Life, openEMS or similar
- Reading academic papers and implementing the methods they describe
- A public portfolio of shipped side projects
What you get
€700 per month
A paid internship.
Your work ships and gets used
What you build lands in the team's real workflow, and you see the difference it makes.
Close mentorship
From the CIO and the Head of Simulations.
Our AI-agent stack
Hands-on experience with Claude Code, with API keys provided.
A workspace with other founders
At the B4i co-working space at Centro Leoni, Milan.
